Painting Practice
My painting draws direct inspiration from the Icelandic landscape. My practice within this landscape traces the river as a connecting thread between two points, occupying horizontal space and vertical space, visible as water and earth, rain and light. The walker’s journey following this tangible or illusory line is one which moves through countless gates, conveys varied stories and embodies changing emotions. The river is also the pathway to the source, taking shape in circular rather than linear form: meltwater captured in a tarn. Pigment water circle paintings allow the element of chance–melting ice, water surface tension, and my own hand–to inform the final shape, size and pattern of each work.
